The Story of the Shepherd Boy
The Story of the Shepherd Boy
Blog Article
Deep within the enchanting rolling hills, resided a boy named Shepherd. His existence was essentially unadulterated, simple, and honest. His primary duty was mainly to look after his flock of rams.
Their low murmuring and the whispering of the gales across the solo tree on the peak were his only companions. Day in day, looking out for his responsibilities imbued in him a sense of quiet fulfillment.
But, there were the occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would long for fellowship. During one such occasion because of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy orchestrated a naughty plan.
Stories of predators prowling on sheep had been heard times and again in the village. So, the boy opted to leveraged this fear and played a trick on the villagers.
One day he ran into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf preying here on my sheep!” The terrified villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but saw no beast.
The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This prank laughed for a few days more. But, one morning, a real wolf did come to prey the flock. The shepherd boy dashed for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could protect only few of his sheep. Devastated, he went back to the town only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the results of crying wolf.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is hard to regain. It's a story as appropriate today as it was in the past.
